Quai du Vin Wraps Up Summer Sounds Delicious 2014 and Introduces a New Event Coming in 20158/27/2014
The sounds of the blues wafted over the vineyard on Sunday as Quai du Vin closed out another “Summer Sounds Delicious” season's "Reds, Whites and the Blues" under sunny skies. Each event of the popular series draws hundreds to relax with an afternoon of musical finery at the winery. Also on hand at this final one was the Association of Port Stanley Artists with some member art and information about a new event for 2015, an Art Show and Wine Celebration planned for July 19th – something to look forward to next summer at Quai du Vin! Canada Day festivities stretched backward from the official holiday on Tuesday July 1st. It was a busy "long weekend" in spots throughout Elgin County, including in Sparta and Port Stanley where visitors could check out some old standby's and some recently opened shops. Knitters gathered at the Little Red Mitten in St. Thomas to celebrate World Wide Knit-In-Public Day on June 14th. Enthusiasts enjoyed working on their projects along with learning about some new techniques (along with hints for beer and cheese pairing) with a talk and tasting courtesy of Matt Janes from Railway City Brewing Co. Exhibitions by three local artists opened at the St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre on May 3rd. Donna Andreychuk’s paintings fill Gallery One with “A Perfect Storm”; “1000 Words of Nature” features Dennis Kalichuk’s work and Heather Keating’s “Journeys” are featured in Gallery Three. It’s a diverse selection of what has inspired these artists in their jaunts and journeys outdoors, and well worth seeing before the closing on Saturday June 7th. Photos by Mark Girdauskas & Relish Elgin So much to show, so much to see as local artists shared an amazing variety of work on the first Railway City Arts Crawl Friday and Saturday. A steady stream of people enjoyed the crawl at eleven locations where artists demonstrated and chatted about their work. |
