St. Thomas Public Library recently welcomed a new staff member to their midst and in doing so took another step towards fulfilling their goals of creating connections in the community and serving with excellence.  Becky Stark, a native of Dorchester, has been added to their team as the Outreach and Community Development Librarian, a brand new position created to help identify community needs and interests, and offer new ways to fill those needs and encourage curiosity and learning.
Becky comes to St. Thomas with a variety of experience, having worked in Tillsonburg as Program Services Coordinator for Oxford County Library, in London as a Collections Assistant for Fanshawe Pioneer Village, and in Prince George, BC, as a Children’s Librarian for Prince George Public Library.  Her job here in St. Thomas will include many varied projects both inside and outside the library – overseeing the outreach programs the library offers, partnering with local organizations on library programs and community events, representing the library on committees and service groups networks, spearheading the creation of a new volunteer program, working in cooperation with the Friends of the Library volunteer group, helping with fundraising projects, and much more.

“It’s been very busy so far,” says Stark, “but a good kind of busy.  I’m really enjoying getting to know the wonderful staff here at our library, and also getting around town to talk with people.  I have a real passion for serving people and seeing how the library can become a fun, helpful, relevant resource for everyone.”

“This is such a wonderful city, and I think the library has done a fantastic job of serving the people here faithfully, alongside many other vital community groups.  I’m looking forward to finding new and diverse ways to reach out to people who maybe don’t currently use the library, and to grow our partnerships with other local organizations.”

If you have information about upcoming community events, or are interested in collaborating with St. Thomas Public Library on future programs, please contact Becky at 519-631-6050 x. 8012 or bstark@stthomaspubliclibrary.ca
