Great Day for 2015 Get Active Downtown Bike Festival

It was a great day to ride walk or run to the St. Thomas Railway Corridor. There kids of all ages could learn about bike safety, take part in a bicycle parade, win prizes, listen to live music or enjoy a healthy snack. The third annual Bike Festival (and the second event held downtown) is organized through Elgin St. Thomas Public Health and a special organizing committee.

Going to Strawberry Fields

Kite fliers and kite watchers alike come to enjoy the activities on and above the largest (and best) kite flying field in Southwestern Ontario for the annual Strawberry Fields Kite Festival. Thus year's event was the 24th and took place on May 30th & 31st. Video below is from Saturday.

On Track St. Thomas Receives Trillium Grant to Pursue Elevated Park Project

The dream of an elevated park on the site of the Michigan Central Railroad bridge in St. Thomas is one step closer thanks to a $42,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The announcement was made on May 8th on the bridge. The grant will be used to fund a Master Plan for the project, an important first phase towards the eventual design and construction of the unique structure.

Sweet Season at Palmer's Maple Syrup

Palmer’s Maple Syrup celebrates the running of the sap each year with a Maple Syrup Festival. Families are invited to tour the shanty and the woods to see maple syrup production methods old and new. Children can try their hand at log-sawing and maple leaf branding and then savour the sweet treat of a pancake breakfast prepared by Port Stanley Lioness members.

THOMAS – Nomination forms for the 42nd Annual Honours and Awards Banquet are now being accepted at the Parks and Recreation Department, located at the St. Thomas Timken Community Centre, 2 Third Avenue. The deadline is 4:00 pm Friday March 20, 2015. This year’s banquet will take place at 6 pm at Memorial Auditorium on Thursday April 23, 2015.

Elgin Ballroom Dance Club Takes Steps to Help Local Children

When it comes to taking steps to help the less fortunate, there’s a group in Elgin that knows that dance well.

The Elgin Ballroom Dance Club made a $5,000 donation to Christmas Care Thursday (Dec. 11) bringing the club’s total donations to children’s charities to nearly $60,000.

“Life isn’t a waltz for everyone,” said treasurer Linda Dekort, of Dutton. “We are proud to be able to share with the community.”
