St. Thomas, Ontario, May 14, 2015 – Citizens 4 Active Transportation (C4AT) with support from the Province of Ontario are launching a new campaign to remind pedestrians to "Do the Bright Thing when walking after dark".
"The campaign idea was generated during the development of the Elgin St Thomas Cycling Master Plan. C4AT played an important role in advocating for the Master Plan and in doing so we regularly heard that cyclists and pedestrians need to be more visible" said Susan Dodds, Co-Chair of the C4AT Committee.
The Campaign officially launches on June 6th when people are encouraged to get active downtown at the Bicycle Festival. The Festival will feature activities for all ages, live music, several bike events, a fun run and more! PLUS get a proper helmet fitting and bike checkup! Even enjoy food, music, chalk drawing, shopping at our downtown merchants, bike decorating, community booths AND enter to WIN prizes!
C4AT will be launching the campaign with the distribution of reflective materials and education materials at this year’s Festival. The key messages of the campaign are:

- Do the bright thing. Be visible when walking at night. Help motorists see you. Wear bright or reflective clothing and items that make it easier to see you.
- Never assume motorists can see you. Cross at marked intersections and crosswalks.
- Where there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic and as far and safely as possible from passing vehicles.
