The dream of an elevated park on the site of the Michigan Central Railroad bridge in St. Thomas is one step closer thanks to a $42,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The announcement was made on May 8th on the bridge. The grant will be used to fund a Master Plan for the project, an important first phase towards the eventual design and construction of the unique structure. |
The plan, to be undertaken by a team of professional architects, engineers, technical consultants and an economist, will define the work to be done and the estimated costs. It will also create a business plan for making the project viable in the long term.
On Track St. Thomas also intends to use the master plan to undertake an international design competition for the elevated park. It will also be used to build an ambitious fundraising campaign for the construction phases of the project. On Track St. Thomas will launch its Request for Proposals (RFP) in late May and expects work to get underway by summer.
