Railway City Brewing Co.'s annual home brew competition winning entry is now available. The Platform series is brewed each year as a salute to the home brewing community – Platform 14 is a “Big, Brown & Beautiful Belgian Ale”. It and all of the competitors and winners will be celebrated at a Sunday September 14th event at the brewery.
This year’s winners were: first place, Belgian Double, brewed by Geordan Saunders from Napanee and Andy Wagner from Hamilton; second place, Vanilla Honey IPA, brewed by Ryan Harrison from St. Thomas; third place, Amber Ale, brewed by Adam Lamb from Sarnia. Impressive entries came from across Ontario and ranged from simple ales, lagers and wheat, to dark stouts and porters.
The winning Platform 14 – Big Hook features 7 different Premium malts. The label design incorporates the signature of both the home brewers and the Railway City Brewing team.
Platform 14 comes in an impressive big bottle which sets up a high expectation for a big Belgian beer to be contained within. That expectation is met and exceeded judging by the enthusiastic response from one Belgian Beer fan I know.
The Sunday special event at the brewery is open to everyone and includes samples, tasting session and brewery tours. Prizes will be awarded to the competitors and visitors to the brewery will get a chance to taste the new brew. It starts at 6pm.
