Port Stanley’s harbour has been an essential part of the village since 1827 when the first schooner was launched. On August 5th to 7th members of Heritage Port Stanley guided interested groups on a narrated walk to learn about this fascinating history. They shared information on the history of shipping and commercial fishing, the story of the tragedy that occurred during the construction of the lift bridge and how the harbour has changed over time from the lift bridge to the lighthouse. Chef/farmer Ellen Laing and friends prepared and served a farm dinner on July 8th at Orchard Hill. Delectable food, delightful wine pairings provided by Jamie Quai of Quai du Vin Estate Winery, a perfect evening in a lovely setting and a long table of happy diners made for a memorable experience.
Guests enjoyed high tea and a historical fashion show at the Sparta Church Museum on Saturday July 8th. This is the third year that the many volunteers have come together in support of the museum. The colourful parade of fashion featured men's, women's and children's clothing from the 1700s to the later 1900s, most with a connection to the people and history of Sparta. Volunteers included the fashion show participants pictured above along with many who served tea and goodies.
The 5th Annual Summer Solstice Festival at Wildflowers Farm took place on June 26th. The family friendly celebration included live music, beer tent, drumming, local market, yoga and dancing.
