Youth from the newly formed Elgin Youth in Philanthropy Council invited the public on the Sunday before Halloween to their first fundraiser, an Interactive Boo House at the Talbot Teen Centre. They designed an extensive set, dialogues and costumes to entertain and to raise funds for local charity.
Youth in Philanthropy is a program of Community Foundations of Canada, enabling youth involvement. Youth Councils within the Community Foundation learn about community needs, raise money and make grants to local organizations.

The Elgin County Community Foundation has partnered with the Talbot Teen Centre to create the new youth council. Their first speaker was from an inspiring London youth group, the Green Team, who do local social engagement projects. The Haunted House was the first of several planned activities which will also include a speed dating with charities event, learning opportunities to build community engagement skills and youth citizenship awards.
