The Clarence "Hap" Day Banner which had hung since 2006 in Maple Gardens came to a new home in St. Thomas on Sunday. The commemoration began at the Jumbo monument with a gathering of community, members of the Day family, Joe Bowen - voice of the Leafs - and Carlton the Bear.
Day won seven Stanley cups with the Leafs as player (1932, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948), coach (1949) and general manager (1951). He retired from hockey and moved to St. Thomas where he ran Elgin Handles and lived until his death at age 88 in 1990.

The celebrations continued later in the afternoon on Sunday at the Timken Centre with a free skate and installation of the banner.
