Enthusiastic participants crowded the gym of Central United Church in St. Thomas and then spilled into the streets to do the Shamrock Shuffle on Saturday morning. It was the third annual event for the Inn Out of the Cold fundraiser.
Before the race, Ken Brooks, executive director of Inn Out of the Cold, noted that there are more and more people using the shelter, some as a place to sleep during the winter months, but also others who have shelter but are in need of a meal.
The event offered a 10k and 5k run as well as a 5k and 2k walk, attracting teams, families and individuals of all ages. Post-race, there were refreshments, awards, prizes and music in the St. Paddy's spirit, by the St. Thomas Ukulele band.
