
![]() Maple Syrup was on tap in Elgin County this past weekend, and many families took the opportunity to visit a local sugar bush. Both Springwater Conservation Area and Palmer’s Maple Syrup serve up syrup-making education along with pancakes and the sweet taste of spring Saturdays and Sundays in March. Springwater is also open all week during the March Break.

Here's a recent news release from the Partnership. St. Thomas, Ontario, July 30, 2012 – This spring an online survey was launched asking residents of Elgin St Thomas to share their thoughts on cycling, walking, skateboarding, rollerblading, and other forms of activity. All completed surveys will be entered for a chance to win a new bicycle. The online survey will be closing in August and we need to hear from as many residents as possible. ![]() Railway Day Camp will provide children with a chance to to experience what it was like during the Railway Age in St. Thomas. The camp is being offered August 20th - 24th by the Canada Southern Railway Station & Elgin County Railway Museum. ![]() Miller Park was the perfect place to bring your prize car or your kids on Canada Day in West Lorne. A shaded area in Miller Park was the venue for the Optimist Club of West Lorne breakfast and Show & Shine car/van show. Starting early afternoon families with kids found fun at the Country Carnival with facepainting, games, bouncy castle and other entertainments. Then it was on to the Fish Fry and Fireworks to complete a busy July 1 at the park. ![]() It was the 15th Annual Lion’s Club Father’s Day Car Show at Pinafore Park on Sunday. Even with the weather a bit “iffy”, the park was filled with people enjoying the cars, food music and displays. ![]() Tractors and toys (really big ones) rolled into the Shedden Keystone Complex for the 59th Annual Shedden Tractor Pull on Friday (June 15, 2012). ![]() Several St. Thomas running enthusiasts answered the invitation to end 2011 with one last fun filled run on Saturday December 31st. Terri Biloski of Run For Your Life, a St. Thomas specialty centre for running programs and gear has organized the run for the past several years. For this race, speed doesn’t matter. No timing devices are allowed and runners are asked to predict their finish time over 5km or 10km, then just run for the sheer enjoyment of it. And judging by the looks on everyone’s faces, they did just that. ![]() The Timken Community Centre opened in October 2005 with two NHL size rinks, rubberized fitness track and multi-use facility. Over the past six years it has been, at times, bursting with hockey and other activities. However, without on-going programming to make use of the facility throughout the day and week, the community investment was not living up to its full potential. That changed this past summer, when St. Thomas Parks and Recreation brought on board Program Coordinator Kaitlyn Koning. Her mission was to coordinate and introduce programming for all of the Parks & Recreation Facilities throughout the city (including The Timken Centre, Memorial Arena, parks and trails) with an eye to providing affordable recreation opportunities for families, youth, teens and adults, and to promoting facility use. The map is now available at municipal offices, the Elgin-St. Thomas Tourism office, and Elgin St. Thomas Public Health. ![]() Elgin County offers an array of hiking and cycling opportunities for individuals and families alike. The map encourages residents to walk, hike, jog, cross country ski, and cycle on the beautiful trails and parks throughout Elgin and St. Thomas. “Not only do trails provide an affordable form of recreation, they also provide health, economic, cultural, and environmental benefits to users and the community” said Public Health Nurse Darrell Jutzi. Recent reports from Statistics Canada shows that 47% of Elgin St. Thomas residents are moderately active or active in their leisure time and that walking, jogging, and cycling are three of the most popular activities amongst Canadians. The development of the map was made possible through the support of many community partners. "More and more we find people are planning their vacations around outdoor physical activities. The new Elgin-St. Thomas Cycling and Hiking Trail Map, is a great resource for visitors to use to explore our beautiful and scenic communities, while enjoying the benefits of being active” said Tourism Development Coordinator Kathryn Russell.
