The Healthy Communities Partnership needs your input on ways to improve conditions for active transportation in Elgin County and St. Thomas. Here's a recent news release from the Partnership.
St. Thomas, Ontario, July 30, 2012 – This spring an online survey was launched asking residents of Elgin St Thomas to share their thoughts on cycling, walking, skateboarding, rollerblading, and other forms of activity. All completed surveys will be entered for a chance to win a new bicycle. The online survey will be closing in August and we need to hear from as many residents as possible.

“This survey is very important. It will provide us with local data on how Elgin St. Thomas might improve conditions for hiking, on-road and off-road cycling, walking and other forms of active transportation. We want to hear from you. To complete a survey, visit www.research.net/EST_ATI,” says Erica Arnett, Health Promoter.
Each person who completes a survey will be eligible to win a new bike valued at almost $500. The bicycle has been generously donated by Paul’s Bicycle Repair and Sport Exchange on 115 Ross Street in St. Thomas.
To date we have had over 500 residents complete the online survey. Initial findings show that there is a lot of interest in being active and that there is a lot of demand for increased cycling and walking options in Elgin St. Thomas. The full findings of the survey will be available this fall when the Healthy Communities Partnership releases a new Active Transportation report. This project is one project of the Healthy Communities Partnership. The Partnership includes local area municipalities, Doug Tarry Ltd., Elgin St. Thomas Public Health, and community members at large.
To complete the survey, visit www.research.net/EST_ATI. Paper surveys will also be available at local municipal offices and Elgin St. Thomas Public Health. For updates on the Active Transportation Project watch the Elgin St. Thomas Public Health website at www.elginhealth.on.ca.
