Art Emporium a New Port Stanley Showcase for Regional Artists

3/14/2012

The Art Emporium in Port Stanley is open, and although the Grand Opening isn’t until May 4th, it’s already looking quite grand – bright, expansive and filled with a wonderful selection of fine art.

We stopped in on a sunny Saturday to find June-Anne Reid and Robert Reid on hand to greet visitors and show off their new digs. June-Anne and Robert are two of the five local artists who operate the gallery - the others are Robin Baratta, Sandra England and Rose Klein. Their goal is to provide a great, affordable space for established and emerging artists and the response have been overwhelming – the works of 31 artists now fill the gallery. There’s lots to see, but the pieces are nicely spaced and little bio’s hung nearby give you some background on each artist.

The Art Emporium includes both a Gift Boutique featuring artisan-handcrafted goods and the Boathouse Gallery of fine art, consigned by regional artists including paintings in all media, photography, textile art and sculpture.

It’s the third art gallery on the Main Street strip of shops, boutiques and restaurants between the main intersection and the water in Port Stanley, and the partner members aim to become an integral part of the bustling business and art life of the community.

The gallery is located at 177 Main Street in Port Stanley. Check http://www.artemporium.ca/ or call 226-658-1888 for more information and hours. The Grand Opening Gala Event takes place Fri May 4th to Sun May 6th (Friday 7pm–10pm, Saturday & Sunday 11am-5pm) with music, refreshments, and a chance to meet the artists!
