He covered a sampling of his songs, many with southwestern Ontario or train references which make the station seem like a made for Fred venue. The performance was, of course, punctuated by Fred’s customary banter, rants (i.e. big wind turbines and new country), digs-at/appreciation for “old guys” whose heads go down before the show is over, and a revival-style plug for rock and roll. It’s a combination of unique audience interaction and high-calibre music that keeps his fans coming back.
Some of those fans will continue their Fred weekend at the Springwater Picnic with a full and varied line-up of music, starting Friday evening. This year’s charity is Elephant Thoughts which provides education to the poorest children at home and abroad. Elephant Thoughts currently works with schools in Ontario, in more than 70 First Nations and Inuit Communities across Canada, and in Nicaragua, Tanzania, Nepal, and India. They will be providing fun and educational activities throughout the weekend.
