The Memories in Wool Rug Hooking Show provided members of the public a chance to learn about the art and craft of rug hooking and to see a diverse selection of work by local artists.
Gail McNaughton, a long-time member of the St. Thomas based Memories in Wool group suggested the idea of a full-scale show to incorporate her enthusiasm for rug hooking and her group, support Serenity House Hospice and also celebrate her 65th birthday. It was held Saturday May 3rd and 4th at Algoma University in St. Thomas.
When she began rug hooking seventeen years ago, Gail found patterns created from her whimsical doodle artwork and her passion for bold, textured wool were a perfect match for hooking with a modern twist. Along with several pieces of work from the Memories in Wool group, the show included hooked rugs, books and art by Gail McNaughton; demonstrations of rug hooking and punch needle; wool, supplies and art to purchase.
The Memories in Wool group meets at the Elgin County Museum or member homes and in Pinafore Park, Tuesdays during the summer, from 9:30 am onwards. For more information contact Elgin County Museum, 519-631-1460, ext. 160.
