October 26, 2001– Toronto, ON – On Monday, November 7, the first-ever Extraordinary Canadians Author Meet-and-Greet with students will take place at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club. Co-sponsored by Elgin County, The Estate of Dorothy Fay Palmer, and Penguin Canada, four of Penguin’s Extraordinary Canadians authors will meet with high school students to talk about their subjects, their writing, and the overall Extraordinary Canadians series.
Series Editor and author John Ralston Saul (Louis Hippolyte-LaFontaine and Robert Baldwin), Charles Foran (Maurice Richard), Charlotte Gray (Nellie McClung), and Nino Ricci (Pierre Elliott Trudeau) will present to 120 high school students from the Elgin County area. This event will give the students a chance to hear the four authors on a panel, as well as speak with the authors on a one-on-one basis following the presentation, which will take place between 11 AM and 1 PM.
Elgin County and Penguin Canada are pleased to sponsor the Extraordinary Canadians Author Meet-and-Greet. The event promotes the development of creativity in area youth. The County of Elgin supports a creative economy that is driven by knowledge and innovation, and promotes the employment of creative workers across all industries and sectors.
“The books in the Extraordinary Canadians series should be featured prominently in every library in the country,” stated Andrew Gunn, Trustee of the Estate of Dorothy Palmer. “I am very pleased that complete sets of the series will now be available in every high school in Elgin County. There is no better way to emphasize the importance of these books than to have some of the authors speak directly to the students. It is with great satisfaction that I have been able to work with Penguin Canada and the County of Elgin in order to present the Extraordinary Canadians Author Meet-and-Greet.”
