Organizers and community have come together for the past three years to make the “Bowling for Boobs” fundraiser a fun, widely supported and highly successful community event.
This past Friday thru Sunday, teams bowled at both Heritage Lanes and Park N Bowl, added this year to accommodate the 109 participating teams. All those balls, laughs, fun and pink gear added up to $43,000 raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.

Bowling for Boobs was started three years ago by Kelly Baines, driven by a passion for both bowling and the cause (her mom died of breast cancer six years ago). Her dad, John Baines and twenty other volunteers keep the momentum going with promo events starting early in the year and with all the work, organization and enthusiasm needed leading up to and on the big weekend.
Sunday afternoon, John noted that the community support is overwhelming – participants included a team from the St. Thomas Police, and two each from the EMS and Fire Department. Organizer, Joanne Redman, expressed appreciation for all of the community and business support, including that of Hershey Canada. Coming into the final stretch on Sunday afternoon, organizers were no doubt reaching the exhaustion point. However both Joanne and John pointed out the importance of making the event fun – that emphasis is clear from the many photos on their facebook page. Check them out and mark October 18th,19th & 20th 2013 on your calendars – the dates for next year have already been set.
