Christmas Open Houses continued this past weekend in Elgin County, with events taking place at Rush Creek Wines, Canadale Nursery and Steed & Company Lavender.
Photographer Mark Girdauskas visited Canadale Nursery in order to check out the reindeer, on hand for a visit before Santa puts them to serious work.

Goats were a part of Norse mythology and winter festivals and may have been the origin of Clement C. Moore’s eight flying reindeer in “The Night Before Christmas”. Rudolph appeared as the red-nosed hero when Robert L. May wrote about him in verse published in a 1939 booklet to be given to children in the Montgomery Ward department stores at Chritmas time.
Steed & Company was open for some Christmas cheer, great lavender-scented gift ideas and sampling of their popular lavender bundt cake and cider. Also on hand were Steed & Co’s new ginger & lavender laced preserves which invite you to “Get Ginger Snapped”. (The shop is open until December 18th).
It was the 15th Annual Wine & Cheese Christmas Open House at Rush Creek Wines. The store is bursting with giftware and visitors could sample wines matched with nibblers of cheese and appetizers or sign up for a full winery tour and tasting.
