St. Thomas Public Library’s eighth annual edition of Words & Music brought author David Rotenberg, jazz vocalist Sharon Smith and the Rainbow Gardens Quartet to the Princess Ave Theatre in St. Thomas on Thursday Sept 27th.
Ric Giorgi, bassist with the quartet introduced the alternating segments of music and readings, commenting early on in the evening, “It’s writers and composers that make life worth living.” The bestselling author and accomplished musicians certainly provided considerable evidence to back up that sentiment.

David Rotenberg is the author of Shanghai and The Zhong Fong Detective series. His most recent book, released this past February is The Placebo Effect, described by the Winnipeg Free Press as “a smart, intriguing ride.”
Rotenberg is a master acting teacher (Rachael McAdams & Scott Speedman have been students) and has directed on Broadway, in many regional theatres, and for television. His readings reflected his dramatic talents and a deep knowledge of history, politics and culture.
The evening provided jazz tunes well played and sung, plus intriguing anecdotes and snippets of captivating writing - it was two hours which flew by and no doubt left most of the audience in anticipation of the next installment of Words & Music.
