Larry Smith ended the “Larry Smith’s Kitchen Party” at the St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre by thanking the audience for coming out to listen to live music. The audience in turn seemed very appreciative of the chance to hear an evening of high-calibre music in a small, casual venue. Opportunities like the one Saturday evening (January 28, 2012) are now being made possible by the Art Centre’s on-going music series.
The Kitchen Party’s Peter Robertson (fiddle) and Larry Smith (guitar) were joined by friends Sandy MacKay (drums) and Larry Ernewein (bass). All fine musicians, they carried the audience along as they wended from blues to country to jazz, sprinkled with “a hint of maritime sea salt”.

Mark Girdauskas was on hand to take photos of the show - check them out in the slideshow below.

It is a sure indication of the high calibre of the music when another notable musician is in the audience and offers high praise for the show. Such was the case on Saturday, as local saxophonist Don Durkee was thoroughly wrapped up in the great sound, snapping photos from his front row seat.

Visual arts and music make for a truly enjoyable mix. Staff members at STEPAC are enthusiastic in their support of live music, local/regional musicians and bringing them together with audiences of all ages.
Once the gallery fills with a few people, the acoustics become very nice, and it is one of those venues where the back half of the room can listen, mingle and socialize while those intent only on the music can sit comfortably near the stage.
Watch for upcoming events at STEPAC, the perfect place for a pleasing meld of art, live music and audience engagement. (St. Thomas musician Deni Gauthier will entertain on March 24.)
