Fingal’s Canada Day party on Saturday evening (June 30) made a big impression on kids and families with a fun line-up of activities organized by the Optimist Club of Fingal-Shedden and the Township of Southwold. It ended with a spectacular display of fireworks. The event took place at the ball park in Fingal and included clowns, face-painting, cake, comments from local dignitaries, DJ services and children’s entertainment by Bill Farquhar and music by local singer Austin Gagnier.
Aylmer turned 1-2-5 and celebrated in a big way the past weekend, from the opening ceremonies on Thursday to the Saturday Kinsmen Parade on Talbot Street to Sunday Canada Day events at the East Eglin Community Complex. Check out photos from Saturday in the slideshow below and catch up on 125 plus years of Aylmer history, from 1835 when the hamlet was named after Lord Aylmer. (Photos by Mark Girdauskas) The Diamond Jubilee Award Ceremony for local honorees was held on Friday June 29 in the CASO Station in St. Thomas. As Canadians celebrate the 60 years of service by Queen Elizabeth II, the awards are being presented as a way for Canadians to also honour fellow Canadians and their service to community and country. Mark Girdauskas photographed each of the proud recipients, plus caught many candid shots throughout the evening during which MP Joe Preston and MPP Jeff Yurek presented 44 awards to local community members. Find a list of those honoured below the slide show with photos of each receiving his or her award. |
