12/6/2016

ST. THOMAS, ON - STEAM Education Centre, a St. Thomas based non-profit learning initiative and centre, is participating in The Hour of Code – a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries in computer coding activities - this Saturday, December 10th from 1pm - 4pm with an open event to the community and media.
On Saturday, STEAM Centre staff and volunteers will provide space and support for Self Directed Learning from 1 - 4pm while delivering Code Programming to a limited number of guests on Scratch, a free programming language where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations, and Computer Processing. Those interested are asked to visit the STEAM Centre website (www.steameducation.ca) or facebook page (@steameducentres) to reserve your spot!

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.
