July 24, 2017 – St. Thomas Public Library is opening its doors to Mother Nature in September with the creation of a new reading garden.
The reading garden will be located outside of the Ingram Room (the children’s programming room) on the Lower Level. This cozy space was intended to be used in some way when the architect designed the building in the 1970s, but the space has remained mostly unused.
Ron Koudys Landscape Architects have re-imagined the area to be configured like an amphitheatre, with seats in varying heights created using a material called armourstone. A variety of plants and trees will surround to create a cozy, inviting natural space that we hope will be used for quiet reading, socializing, and outdoor programming.
Construction will begin in early September 2017 and the garden will officially be opened for use in spring of 2018.
