RODNEY, ON - Dozens of First Responders from across the province showed support on Thursday  for The Stable Grounds, a residential treatment centre for PTSD.

The sun was shining and spring paid a visit across south western Ontario. It was also the dawning of a new residential treatment centre in Rodney, just outside of London. The Stable Grounds welcomed members of First Response teams to join them for the first look at their facility, and help cut the ribbon at their grand opening.
Dozens of First Responders from across the province showed up in uniform to demonstrate their support. The Stable Grounds is the first of its kind in Canada: a residential therapy centre developed exclusively for First Responders and Uniformed Emergency Response Teams who suffer from PTSD, utilizing equine-assisted psychotherapy as part of their treatment options. The facility offers individual and group therapy on site. Over 150 people gathered for the grand opening, including the Municipality of West Elgin Town Council members, the Mayor, Rodney Fire department, Elgin County OPP, St. Thomas and Elgin County EMS, Lampton County Paramedics, members of the RCMP, OPP, Toronto Fire Services, Ontario Police College and Stouffville Volunteer Fire department.

Guests were able to tour the property and facility and meet members of The Stable Grounds staff team, which include therapists, social workers, recreational therapists, equine specialists, yoga & meditation instructors, a nurse, chefs and program director.
Evidence shows that First Responders are at least twice as likely (compared to the general population) to suffer from PTSD, due to the risk of frequent exposure to traumatic stressors. There are more than 73,000 First Responders in Ontario alone. “It’s hard for people to imagine what we see on the job on a given day,” says Kevin Webber, Co-Founder of The Stable Grounds and 27-year Fire Fighter. “We see unimaginable things. Sometimes we know what to do with it, sometimes you feel like there’s just nowhere for it to go”. Webber admits that there is more internal support than ever to seek help dealing with mental health issues within First Response units.
“The feedback we received today at the Grand Opening was of overwhelming appreciation from the First Responder community that support like this exists, and they all left excited to tell their colleagues about it. This place is for them, so that’s the best compliment we can hope for”.

The Stable Grounds, a 7,500 square foot facility located on 55 acres, will offer 30, 60 and 90 day treatment programs with a broad range of therapeutic options. The programs and activities are all developed with the unique experience and needs of First Responders in mind.
In addition to the 10-bedroom main residential building which includes multiple group and individual therapy space, the facility includes a large heated workshop, a 6-stall barn and a 15,000 square foot indoor training arena. Plans for an additional 13 bedrooms are scheduled for the fall of 2017.

Chief Clinic Director, Reina Zatylny, specializes in the treatment of various forms of trauma with First Responders and the military. As Chief Clinic Director at The Stable Grounds, Ms. Zatylny will help assess the needs of each guest to ensure the proper program is established for their individual needs. Ms. Zatylny has a team of support therapists at The Stable Grounds who will work with her to provide a full assortment of therapy options. “I’ve found that it is the compliment of various approaches on a daily, ongoing basis that have the most effective results”, says Ms. Zatylny.

Over the next 10 days, The Stable Grounds will be conducting private tours for First Responder units or doctors/psychologists/therapists who treat PTSD who wish to tour the facility. Appointments must be scheduled.
