St. Thomas, Ontario – The City of St. Thomas, Elgin County, and the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin are happy to announce the launch of the new St. Thomas-Elgin Immigration Portal website, “Welcome to St. ThomasElgin.” The website was funded by the Government of Ontario and is one of 29 existing regional portals.
Given the high quality of life in St. Thomas and Elgin, the website will help attract people to the region to start new businesses, fill skills gaps, and study. With immigration increasingly accounting for labour market and population growth in Ontario, the “Welcome to St. Thomas-Elgin” Portal will be an important component to build regional economic growth and prosperity.
“Newcomers not only enrich the diversity of their communities, they also bring new skills and ideas that help grow local economies. By helping newcomers contribute to the social and economic fabric of the community, St. Thomas is positioning itself for continued prosperity.”
-- Laura Albanese, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
The site was developed by the YWCA and guided by a team of economic development, tourism, and settlement representatives from St. Thomas and Elgin County as an additional community attraction resource. Videos on the site featuring local newcomers and immigrants highlight real experiences of immigrating to our region to start new businesses, jobs, and settle their families.
The general public is invited to view and share the site, which can be found at www.WelcometoSTE.ca.
