The Port Stanley Festival Theatre is pleased to be holding its fifth annual Playwrights’ Festival on Friday September 16th and Saturday September 17th with public readings of both “Two Ships Passing” (Sept. 16th, 8PM), a new comedy by Governor General and Chalmers Award nominee Dave Carley, and “Five Alarm” (Sept. 17th, 8PM), a new comedy by up-and-coming playwright, Kristen Da Silva. Featuring actors Karen Parker (“Real Estate”, and “Animal Magnetism”), Rachel Jones (“The Love List”, and “The Melville Boys”), Ryan Bommarito (“The Birds and The Bees”), Stephen Sparks (“Wrong for Each Other”) and Anne Page (“Midnight Madness”), both plays will be presented as public readings followed by a question/answer session with the playwright and invited audience feedback.
The Port Stanley Playwrights’ Festival is part of the Port Stanley Festival Theatre’s new play development program, which has in the past produced premiere productions of: “Not In My Backyard” in 2013, “Bingo Ladies” in 2014, and “Birds of a Feather” and “The Birds and the Bees” in 2016.
Admission is free of charge with donations accepted at the door. This season all donations collected during this festival will be forwarded directly to assist the theatre’s fundraising efforts in the Dollar for Dollar Donor Match Campaign. This campaign has been initiated by an anonymous donor whereby they have generously pledged to match all Expand the Experience donations dollar for dollar up to a pledge of $100,000 between Sept 1st and Nov 30th of 2016.
