STEPAC Exhibition: Deep Rooted, Selections from the Permanent Collection
Sat May 18th to Sat Jun 29th

Deep Rooted reveals how the tree has been used as a symbol for all of nature and its tremendous magnificence; it is a dominant signifier of Canada’s national identity as well as the individual’s struggle against the wilderness; and currently, it even serves as a reminder of our precarious ecological position. The exhibition ponders the tree as a focus in art from the early twentieth  century to the present. The various depictions of the tree are suggestive of its continuing power as an reminiscent symbol of our deep and shifting relationships with the natural environment. Works in the exhibition will include Robert Reginald Whale, John Beatty, and contemporary works by Patrick Landsley and Roly Fenwick.
