Salt Creek Market Opens for Season

The Salt Creek Market re-opened for the season on May 21st with a new team dedicated to providing fresh local in-season produce and some amazing local and regional products. The Salt Creek Farm Market was established by the Sloan Family in 1995. In 2015 the Market and a small plot of land was leased by the Sloans to the Canadian Mental Health Association-Elgin County Branch. It opens this season with manager, Steve Peters and assistant manager, Petra van Bommel.

Trip to Palmer's A Sweet Spring Tradition

Palmer's Maple Syrup serves up maple syrup education in woods and shanty along with waffles and pancakes drizzled with some of the sweet stuff. Their festival is part of a yearly spring tradition, weekends in March.

Chick Boss Cake isn’t new – they have been creating beautiful and tasty wedding cakes, cupcakes and favours and selling them on-line for almost four years. However, Saturday was the unveiling of their bricks and mortar (cake and buttercream?) location at 381 Talbot St in St. Thomas, and co-owners Rebecca and Chad Hamilton seemed excited (as did those who stopped in) about the elegant shop which perfectly matches their pretty products.

Plowing Match Legacy Scholarship for 2015 Now Available

Central Elgin, ON, April 1, 2015. – Elgin County is pleased to announce that the application process is open for the 2015 International Plowing Match (IPM) Legacy Agricultural Scholarship.

Each year $2500 is awarded to one female and one male student who are attending college or university in Canada to study an agriculturally-related program. Examples of such programs include agricultural sciences, agribusiness, agri-tourism, nutrition, earth sciences, and food sciences. The scholarship is provided as a result of generous support of legacy funds from the 2010 International Plowing Match hosted by Elgin County.
