Aunt Lena’s Country Market opened earlier in 2012 offering a variety of specialty food items and preserves, ice-cream, and an interesting and diverse selection of gift- and décor-ware. Most importantly, though, they sell Aunt Lena's very popular and delicious homemade pies – it’s worth a stop just for the pie.

The Healthy Communities Partnership needs your input on ways to improve conditions for active transportation in Elgin County and St. Thomas. Here's a recent news release from the Partnership.

St. Thomas, Ontario, July 30, 2012 This spring an online survey was launched asking residents of Elgin St Thomas to share their thoughts on cycling, walking, skateboarding, rollerblading, and other forms of activity.  All completed surveys will be entered for a chance to win a new bicycle.  The online survey will be closing in August and we need to hear from as many residents as possible.

St. Thomas singer-songwriter Dennis Kalichuk has a new video posted on youtube. The single release, “Die by the Pen!” is a musical treat and also a thoughtful comment beautifully presented. It’s “dedicated to all who have died or suffered from being bullied” and can be found at http://youtu.be/rth-MPGI4tc. Background vocals are provided by choir singers from Aurthur Voaden and St. Joseph's Secondary Schools.

The Station Parkette in downtown St. Thomas was the place on Saturday July 14th to listen to a little live music, view some local art, and pause for a while to relax and soak up some sunshine. Art in the Park brought together ten artists in mediums from clay to paint, beads, fabric and stamps for their second event of the summer. Shugg and the Temporary Men performed and children stopped in at the free crafts centre, compliments of St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre, to create colourful rain-sticks.

Pinafore Park filled with seniors on Wednesday (July 11th) for the 14th Annual Senior’s Day in the Park. They took the opportunity to learn about a multitude of services and organizations in Elgin County at the displays on-site. When it was time to relax, the park's large trees, pavilions, and the occasional cloud cover provided shade on a beautiful summer day. Below, you will find many photos of the day by Mark Girdauskas.

Miller Park was the perfect place to bring your prize car or your kids on Canada Day in West Lorne. A  shaded area in Miller Park was the venue for the Optimist Club of West Lorne breakfast and  Show & Shine car/van show. Starting early afternoon families with kids found fun at the Country Carnival with facepainting, games, bouncy castle and other entertainments. Then it was on to the Fish Fry and Fireworks to complete a busy July 1 at the park.
